Flash Glucose Monitoring is a method for checking blood glucose levels without having to do a fingerstick test. It uses a sensor that you wear under your skin, which records your glucose levels continuously throughout the day.
01. Point 1
A small, round sensor is applied to your arm. The sensor is very thin and flexible, and it's inserted just under the skin. It's held in place by a strong adhesive so it won't fall off.
02. Point 2
The sensor measures your glucose levels continuously, and it stores the data for 8 hours.
03. Point 3
When you want to check your glucose levels, you use a scanner device (or sometimes a smartphone app) and hold it over the sensor. It reads the data and displays your current glucose level, a glucose trend arrow (which shows whether your levels are going up or down), and a graph of your glucose levels over the past 8 hours.
04. Point 4
You can scan the sensor even through your clothing, so it's very convenient and discreet.
Some key benefits of flash glucose monitoring are that it can reduce the need for fingerstick tests and it can give you a more detailed picture of your glucose levels throughout the day. This can help you and your doctor make more informed decisions about your treatment plan. However, you should still perform fingerstick tests in certain situations, such as when you're feeling ill, when your glucose levels are changing rapidly, or when the readings don't match your symptoms.
Remember, it's always important to follow your doctor's advice regarding glucose monitoring. They can provide you with more personalized guidance based on your specific needs and condition.
